"Given our highly competitive, service-oriented industry, our people are key to our success and sustainability," says Ruben Gooranah, Time Square's General Manager in Pretoria. "This is why we look at Time Square careers as a marathon, not a sprint, and go the extra mile to ensure Time Square employees are empowered to give their best at all times."

"We want to create genuine value for the communities we serve, while offering rewarding employment and abundant opportunities for personal growth," adds Gooranah.

To this end, multiple openings to pursue a career in hospitality, both locally and overseas, are offered to promising candidates through training, bursaries and learnerships, a structured, work-based learning system that combines classroom theory with on-the-job training, leading to a registered occupational qualification.

The ongoing programme at Time Square began in 2024, with the value to date being over R1.7-million (from 2024 to 2025) to 49 candidates across various departments at Time Square, including:

  • Reitumetse Mohelepi (MVG Hostess — Marketing Department): Completed Higher Certificate in Marketing Practice (Boston City Campus).
  • Clinton Mogase (MVG Hostess — Marketing Department): Completed Higher Certificate in Marketing Practice (Boston City Campus).
  • Tracy Pretorius (Cluster Revenue Manager, Time Square and The Maslow Hotel): Completed Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Analytics (eCornell University).
  • Percy Lebjane (Dealer — Gaming Tables): Completed Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management (International Hotel School).
  • Theodora Moeng (PR and Communications Coordinator — Marketing): Completed post-graduate diploma in Digital Marketing (Regent Business School).

Tracy Pretorius says, "Studying Revenue Management has taught me how data, strategy and customer behaviour come together to drive sustainable business growth. I'm passionate about this field because it blends analytical thinking with real-world decision-making, allowing me to shape outcomes that impact an organisation's success."

"This qualification has strengthened my leadership to use insight and innovation to create value, open opportunities for others and contribute to a thriving hospitality industry. I am grateful for the support that has made this journey possible," adds Pretorius.

"This is an investment in the future, not only for the staff members but for Sun International in general and Time Square specifically," concludes Gooranah.
